Health system finance has gotten harder every year, and the tools finance teams use to manage it haven't kept up. At Translucent, we started the company on a simple premise: CFOs deserve financial intelligence built for the complexity of today’s healthcare system.
That's why I'm proud to share that Translucent is partnering with University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) to bring enterprise-wide financial intelligence to one of the largest academic health systems in Texas.
The Problem We're Solving
UTMB plays a vital role in delivering healthcare to communities across Texas with hospitals across four campuses and more than 90 facilities across the region. The system drives $5 billion of annual economic impact across the state.
That type of scale involves running a complex financial operation: dozens of service lines, each with its own cost structure, revenue mix, and mission. Understanding the true financial picture of the organization means pulling all of that together, every month, before anyone can act on it. Today at most health systems, this work is manual, the data lives in disconnected systems, and by the time a report is finished, it's too late to act.
Translucent was built to solve this, and together, we'll be deploying an enterprise-wide financial intelligence foundation spanning financial reporting, performance management, and planning.
Why This Matters
Financial sustainability is a critical component of fulfilling the health system's mission. Every dollar a health system saves on administrative overhead and manual reporting is a dollar that can go toward patient care, research, and the communities they serve.
AI changes what's possible for health system finance. A health system that automates reconciliation, unifies its financial data, and leverages AI to create more capacity for analysts can run much more efficiently. It frees up resources and attention that can go directly toward the mission, more capacity for the patients who need it, and a more durable foundation for the organization's long-term strategic goals.
This is what AI-native financial transformation looks like in practice. It's a fundamentally different operating model: unified financial and operational data, an AI-enabled finance team, and agents all working together to improve enterprise performance.
We're grateful for the trust UTMB's finance leadership has placed in us, and we're looking forward to working together.
